CT2884 - This commemorative poster celebrates the reopening of the CSX Blue Ridge Subdivision on September 25, 2025, after Hurricane Helene. The Poplar Bridge is a 530-foot steel span structure crossing the Nolichucky River at CSX milepost Z147.9 in Poplar, NC. The bridge was originally constructed in 1909. The hurricane flood water lifted the six bridge spans (94 tons each) off their concrete foundations and carried them several hundred feet downstream. After the storm, all bridge spans were recovered from the river, and four of the six bridge spans were rehabilitated and reused on the rebuilt structure. The reconstructed Poplar bridge now features a modern ballast deck design with improved under-clearance which improves resiliency against future severe weather events.
